Our guest speaker was AmandaBraet from Birchway Niagara, who shared the important work her organization is doing to support women, children, and families experiencing intimate partner violence.

Birchway Niagara's mission is built around three key principles:

  • Harm reduction
  • Protecting and empowering women
  • Being an ally against abuse

Amanda shared several sobering statistics:

  • One in three women will experience some form of abuse during their lifetime.
  • Abuse affects women from all economic backgrounds.
  • In Ontario, 43 women lost their lives to femicide in a single year, highlighting the ongoing need for awareness, prevention, and support.

Birchway Niagara provides 24-hour emergency support services, including:

  • Emergency hotel accommodations for those fleeing abuse
  • Individual counselling
  • After-shelter support
  • Child and youth services
  • Assistance with family court proceedings
  • New clothing and personal care items
  • Connections to additional community resources

We thank Amanda for her informative and heartfelt presentation and for the vital work Birchway Niagara does every day to help individuals and families build safer futures.
