Welcome to September and in the calendar of Rotary the month of Basic Education and Literacy month.   Of course this is a special month of celebrating our own Literacy Programs.    We sponsor five schools in St. Catharines with the Gary Landry reading program.  As Doctor Suess said "The more you read the more things you will know.  The more things you learn the more places you will go"  The program needs two things to work  one being volunteers at the school if you can help or know someone that can help please let Linda Landry know.  The second is $$$.  To do this one of the main fundraiser is the Seasons of Cheer draw.  Tickets will soon be available

We have a full month of speakers this month including our first outgoing exchange student.  If you have ideas for speakers please let Phil know.

Another Successful Lobsterfest is in the books.  Thanks to Willie and the Club for a great Job.

 

We do have some lobsters for sale call Willie to purchase $13.00 for a 1 1/4 lb lobster just delivered on Friday from the east coast. Willie at 905-685-2475 

 

 

 

Ribfest booth fundraiser started the month of August with lots of fellowship, money made and almost 100% of member participation

A meeting was held at the rooftop of the Holiday Inn.  The tapas never ended coming and the weather was perfect. 

We even had a couple members from other clubs join the summer evening

District Governor Marlee and husband Bill were our special guests.  Marlee discussed this year is 100 years of the rotary foundation.  To celebrate they are asking every Rotarian to up our givings by $26.50 the amount the foundation was started with.  She did bring bad news that Nigeria after being polio free for a couple years had two cases recently.  Polio Plus is still needed to kill this disease.  Marlee was excited to share the District Conference at the Batavia Downs please consider attending this event.  Janet  presently Marlee with a check to the Polio Plus on behalf of our club

 

 

 

Thanks to Clarice for again organizing the Day at the Races in Fort Erie.  Unfortunately the stories did not involve big wins but the group had a great time.

Last week Murray Watson speaking to inspire.   WELCOME .  Murray lead up thru how the letters of welcome can inspire your life.  Murray told us how he felt he has done someone wrong in his life and he went out of his way to find this person and apologize.  How this simple act can change your life.  He challenged us to do the same.  Kent thanked our speaker
